Catania (I. Fonte Chiara & II. Dany)

🇺🇸 A vibrant musical bridge between modern Italian artistry and Venezuelan tradition.

Composed in Málaga during Christmas 2019, Catania is a compelling concert diptych by Maestro Efraín Silva. The work is named after the historic Sicilian city of Catania, home to both of its dedicatees: the acclaimed Italian concert guitarist and pedagogue Salvatore Daniele Pidone, and his outstanding student, the young guitar talent Chiara Cantore.

More than just two separate pieces, this diptych acts as a double musical portrait built on contrast:

I. Fonte Chiara (Prelude): A modern, fluid movement conceived for Chiara Cantore. The title playfully alludes to her name ("clear fountain"), using extended natural harmonics, subtle percussive effects (sul ponticello), and flowing, water-like textures to reflect youthful energy and freshness.

II. Dany (Venezuelan Waltz): A vibrant, syncopated concert waltz dedicated to Maestro Daniele Pidone, affectionately named after his diminutive "Dany". Here, Silva brings the unmistakable rhythmic swing, warmth, and lyricism of the Venezuelan waltz tradition to honour their artistic friendship.

Compuesto en Málaga durante la Navidad de 2019, Catania es un díptico de concierto del Maestro Efraín Silva que rinde homenaje a la histórica ciudad siciliana de Catania, cuna de sus dos dedicatarios: el destacado concertista y pedagogo italiano Salvatore Daniele Pidone y su alumna, la joven promesa de la guitarra Chiara Cantore.
