Millions of years ago, geologic processes shaped the Earth’s crust, forming folds and pushing up mountains. Erosion and water remodeled stone and land, removing and depositing matter here and there. The Rocks of Morillon in the French Jura mountains, with their vertical layers, are the amazing remains of an eroded anticline, an arch-like geologic fold.

The Ellmoril cowl is inspired by this tilted bedrock now reclaimed by vegetation. Ellmoril is a wordplay on Morillon and Lemme, the river that flows nearby. The cowl combines organic lace and vertical twisted stitch patterns reminiscent of leaves, winding streams and tilted rock layers. Ellmoril has asymmetric edgings with peaks and scallops like Morillon’s rocky outcrops and undulating valleys. Join us for this geologic journey through rock and valley!

For best effect, use a round yarn with good stitch definition. Yarn weights ranging from Fingering to Worsted would be suitable. As for colorways, I would recommend solid, semi-solid, or gradient (single skein or gradient set) yarns.

Do you like the Ellmoril cowl? You might like those patterns too: La Merveille scarf / stole, and the Arboricole cowl. For endless fun with stylish organic lace and vertical twisted stitch patterns! Check them out!
