Is your SLIP showing? A Secret Little Item Pouch can be kept under wraps or be shown off - right out in the open. Depending upon the size of your belt loops, you could even wear your SLIP as a belt and slide those little secret items in between the loops. However you wear it, SLIP is a comfortable and secure way to carry your phone, keys, ID or other secret little items that need to go with you while walking the dog, taking a run or browsing the market.
Start with 3/4" (2 cm) or 1" (2.5 cm) elastic or webbing, add a slider, a D-ring and a side release buckle. (The D-ring is a secure place to fasten your keys so they don’t fall out when you answer your phone.) Then at just the right spot add a 4-way stretchy pouch that has a clever fold allowing it to lie smoothly when empty but which expands to fit your secret little items.
This is a quick and easy project and is a great seller at shows. Pattern includes directions, clear diagrams and pictures and measurements for small, medium and large SLIP. Or use a bit of math to make a custom size.
SLIP can be made with 4-way stretch lycra, #3 coil zipper or #5 coil zipper tape and 3/4" (2 cm) or 1" (2.5 cm) webbing or decorative elastic. When you use decorative elastic or webbing it is okay if your SLIP is showing but don’t leave home without it.
MATERIALS and SUPPLIES:
Belt
Small - 30” (.75 m) of 3/4" (2 cm) or 1" (2.5 cm) elastic or webbing
Medium - 40” (1 m) of 3/4" (2 cm) or 1" (2.5 cm) elastic or webbing
Large - 50” (1.3 m) of 3/4" (2 cm) or 1" (2.5 cm) elastic or webbing
Pouch
All Sizes - 9-1/2” x 9-1/2” (24 cm x 24 cm) piece of 4-way stretch lycra
Hardare
(1) slider the same width as your elastic/webbing
side release buckle the same width as your elastic/webbing. This can be flat or curved.
(1) D-ring the same width as your elastic/webbing
10” of coil zipper tape with slider. This can be a regular #3, #4.5 or #5 zipper that is at least 10” long from top stops to bottom stop.
