Welcome to Hope Street: Teacher's Guide and Workbook e-book
Each 'story' is a simple sentence set, introducing a new neighbour, but with a little twist in the final sentence, to make it more than an 'I like bananas. I like oranges.' list. As with all the books, the stories are set in Australia, but reflect the lives of new arrivals anywhere.
The sentences are matched to illustrations. If you want to be sure that students are reading (not just using the illustrations to 'read'), then the 'cut-up' stories allow them to test themselves.
Like the other books in the series, Welcome to Hope Street includes the story text, teacher/tutor notes, exercises and answers, and a 'board game'. However, there are a couple of ways in which it's different from the other books:
- The audio for this book has three versions: 'listen', 'read with the teacher' (extra slow version), and 'now you read'.
- The workbook is a little different from the other books in the series, as the story pages are designed to be photocopied back to back and folded into booklet form. If you're using it online, you'll need to rotate those pages, or read from the cut-ups page OR please download the extra pdf which has the story pages in standard layout.
- There's a complete set of word by word cut-ups for this story, which you can find at thebooknextdoor.com/faces
