The Coat: Teacher's Guide and Workbook e-book
"Anni, you need a good coat," she said. She was wearing a thick red jacket. She looked wonderful. She always looked wonderful.
"I'm not really cold," I said. It wasn't true, but I didn't have the money for a new coat.
The Coat is a work of original fiction in 16 chapters, about Anni and her struggles for independence, love and a new future. Each chapter ends with a narrative hook – and be warned, many teachers say that students read ahead, in order to find out what happens!
The story is told in simple past tense and is aimed at adult and young adult learners.
Like the other ESL Extras reading books, The Coat includes:
- the (lightly) illustrated story, which can be photocopied or shared online
- questions for busy teachers to ask, with a focus on the life experience of adult learners
- exercises and answers (4 pages for every 2 chapters)
- audio with slow-paced reading of the story
(There's an 'Extra Information' page at the front with tips on any Australian situations/usage, plus what to do if you don't use A4 size paper.)
