- Notes from the Artist: Early one October morning, I took the three and a half hour bus ride to West 125th Street where my photo friend, a former Harlem bus driver, met me. Despite news of police raids for drugs near Lexington Avenue, we walked and photographed. I took the shot of the Express Grill Deli, lively with neighborhood lunchers. The deli occupied the ground floor of a six-floor building built in 1920. The building sold a while ago for the purpose of renting walk-up apartments, but the rentals remain unavailable. The once-popular Express Grill Deli is gone, a product of a halting gentrification.
