TME Intermediate Athletics Years 5–6 | Ages 9–11 | Upper KS2
Build confident and knowledgeable young athletes with six progressive Years 5–6 lessons covering running, jumping and throwing.
Pupils develop sprint reaction and acceleration, relay timing and baton handovers, pacing over 400–600 metres, long-jump technique and scissor action. They also explore the push, pull, sling and heave throwing actions before applying their learning through a multi-event personal-best challenge.
Every lesson includes a detailed written plan and accompanying visual infographic. Curriculum guidance, Know and Show outcomes, vocabulary, equipment, timings, safety, Head–Heart–Hands assessment, AfL questions, STEP differentiation, SEND and EAL support and Plan–Monitor–Reflect prompts are included.
The scheme connects technical development with purposeful competition and personal improvement. Pupils learn how to perform, measure, officiate and evaluate safely rather than simply completing isolated activities.
