This song is an attempt to capture the internal landscape of someone living with bipolar disorder. I wanted the title, "When," to reflect that constant uncertainty—the feeling of never quite knowing when the ground is going to shift beneath your feet.
The lyrics dive straight into those intense highs and lows, trying to poignantly map out the experience of both the mania and the crushing weight of the depression. I didn't want to just focus on the struggle, though. The heart of the song is really about her journey toward acceptance. It’s about that incredible resilience it takes to navigate those challenges every single day and the way she still manages to find these genuine moments of peace and joy right in the middle of it all. It’s a tribute to her strength and the fact that the condition doesn't define the whole of who she is.
