The Spiral Companion Collection
The Spiral Companion Collection
A printed Montessori elementary planning and reflection collection for guides who want to hold the three-year cycle with more clarity, without turning it into a script, pacing guide, or checklist.
The Spiral Companion Collection brings the stories, lessons, observation, reflection, and record of learning into one connected practice across the elementary years.
The guide holds a map of possible connections.
The child holds a record of where learning actually happened.
This is not a curriculum that assigns every child the same work each week. It is a thoughtful structure for preparing meaningful possibilities, noticing what emerges, and deciding what to offer next.
What this collection helps you hold
Montessori elementary is expansive. There are the Great Lessons, the albums, the prepared environment, the individual child, the mixed-age community, the work that lasts longer than expected, and the work that never quite lands.
The Spiral Companion Collection helps you keep those pieces in relationship.
You may follow the weekly path in sequence, remain with a story longer, return to an earlier thread, or move toward something emerging from the children. The collection does not replace your albums, Montessori materials, observation, or judgment. It supports the parts of the work that can be difficult to hold all at once across a three-year cycle.
What arrives in your collection
Five printed, spiral-bound books, made to order and shipped within the United States.
The Spiral Companion, Volume I
Weeks 1–20
Twenty story-woven weeks of connected invitations across language, history, mathematics, science, geography, and community life.
The Spiral Companion, Volume II
Weeks 21–40
The second half of the 40-week path, continuing the cosmic threads through return, deepening, revision, and new possibility.
Together, Volumes I and II provide a practical way to hold Cosmic Education across a full school year while leaving room for the real rhythm of a classroom.
Student Learning Map
Choose Lower Elementary, ages 6–9, or Upper Elementary, ages 9–12
A three-year work journal for children to choose one meaningful piece of work, name what they are learning, and locate evidence of their own growth.
Children may mark:
- I chose it
- I practiced it
- I can show it
This is not a grading book or a public display. It is a private, child-owned record of learning over time.
Guide Learning Map
Matching your chosen age band
A companion for the guide, designed to help connect observation, standards, evidence, and possible next lessons without turning learning into a checklist.
The Rhythm of the Room
A guide for noticing the living classroom.
Use it when you need to pause and ask:
- What is emerging here?
- What needs to deepen?
- What needs rest?
- What deserves to return?
- What might be offered next?
How you might use the collection
Begin with the week’s Spiral Story. Read it in advance, consider the children currently in your room, and choose a few connected lessons or invitations that feel timely.
Tell the story. Offer selected lessons. Prepare a few accessible materials for continued exploration.
Then observe.
Some work may last one morning. Another thread may carry through several weeks. A question may lead you somewhere unexpected. The collection is meant to move with that reality.
Invite children to record one meaningful piece of work in their Learning Map. Use your Guide Learning Map to notice developing capacities, locate evidence, and consider what may come next.
Return to The Rhythm of the Room whenever you need help seeing the whole rather than reacting to one moment.
Choose your age band
Choose Lower Elementary, ages 6–9 or Upper Elementary, ages 9–12.
Your choice determines the included Student Learning Map and matching Guide Learning Map. Every collection includes both volumes of The Spiral Companion and The Rhythm of the Room.
Additional Student Learning Maps may be purchased separately.
