Synopsis: Urban legend has it that every July 4th, a secret society gathers to play a game. Tonight, five strangers – Baller, Trader, Rapper, Player and Hustler – wake up as human pieces on a giant board. Each one has a label on their back and comes with a designated prop. From somewhere in the dark, dice roll like thunder. An invisible hand moves them forward, slides them back, disregarding every single attempt to resist. Welcome to America! The Game.

Russell Nichols is a playwright, poet, speculative fiction writer and endangered journalist. He creates what he calls Theatre of the Cipher: puzzle-box plays where people are trapped in constructs beyond their control. He is currently writing a commissioned play about NASCAR legend Wendell Scott for Barter Theatre and was one of three playwrights selected by Shabach Enterprise through the American Theatre Wing's 2025 National Theatre Company Grant program.
