Rose Garden

I have to admit to doing my share of yarn shopping late a night. One night I was browsing through single-cake gradients in search of a colorway that grabbed me. This one did exactly that. It starts as a wonderful blue-y green that fades into a delightful rose. I had to have it. Once it was here it took its own sweet time deciding what it wanted to be—or so I thought. Apparently, the yarn knew from the offset that it wanted to be knit up as a rose garden. I didn’t hear its message for quite a while, then suddenly it all fell together. It’s so simple. I found a trellis pattern, and some roses, and the next thing I knew I had a shawl. 

This pi shawl starts at the top center with a tab cast on, which moves to an easy mesh. The mesh is followed with a knit trellis, then finally with the roses and a small border. The shawl ends with a thorny picot bind off.

• Yarn: lace weight; 850 yards.
• Model: Wollelfe Lace Merino Silk 50/50 in Rose Garden; 820 yards in 125 grams; 50% merino, 50% silk. I used 784 yards, ended by working Border row 4, and used the Loose picot bind off.
• Gauge: 20 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches.
• Needles: US 5 (3.75 mm) for gauge, US 6 (4 mm) for border, and US 8 (5 mm) for binding off.
• Finished size: 67 x 28 inches.
