[SPH] Arisaka Type 97
The Arisaka Type 97 is a Japanese bolt-action sniper rifle introduced in 1937, based on the Type 38 infantry rifle. It is chambered in 6.5×50mmSR Arisaka and features a five-round internal magazine loaded via stripper clips. The rifle has a 797mm barrel, an overall length of 1,280mm, and weighs approximately 3.8 kg without optics.
It retained the Type 38’s Mauser-style bolt-action system, known for its durability and smooth cycling, and featured a turned-down bolt handle to accommodate the scope. The rifle’s low-recoil 6.5mm cartridge contributed to its accuracy but lacked the stopping power of heavier sniper rounds like 7.92×57mm Mauser or .30-06 Springfield.
The Type 97 was used by Imperial Japanese Army snipers during World War II, particularly in China, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia. The rifle remained in service until the end of the war, with some captured examples later used in post-war conflicts.
