Teens learn to communicate effectively through writing and speaking in Communication 101: Essays and Speeches by Meredith Curtis. Students read classic essays, write a wide variety of essays, listen to memorable speeches and give a wide variety of speeches, and read one classic a month in this one-credit high school English course.
Essays
Each month students will read a classic essay, look up vocabulary words from within the essay, and write sentences using the vocabulary words. Students will write an essay that is similar to the one they have read. Essays will be read aloud to family or fellow co-op class members.

Speeches
Each month, students will listen to great speakers speak including Ronald Reagan, Maggie Thatcher, Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, John F. You will write five timed essays this year to prepare for S.A.T.s. Clear instructions are given for each one. They will occur during class time.
