The sweater I knit for this design, the one you see here, was sitting on one of my dress forms, Rose, for ages, waiting patiently (probably waiting for buttons to be attached). My husband walked in not long after I had put it on Rose, and said, “That looks collegiate.” Hm. You know what? He was right. Rose wore Collegiate while I knit and released other designs. Then Nicole, the other dress form, wore the sweater for a while. It looked better on Rose, and Nicole knew it.

Knit in one piece to the armholes, then splits for back and fronts. The front neck opening begins on the same row as the armholes. Sleeves can be worked flat from the cuff up, and seamed later, or with short rows and in the round from the shoulder down—both options are included in this pattern.
  • Yarn: fingering weight; 625, 700, 775, 850 [950, 1000, 1150, 1225] yards MC, and 325, 350, 400, 425 [475, 525, 550, 575] yards CC.
  • Model: Baah Yarn La Jolla in Fog (MC) and Mystique (CC); finished size: 41 inches; 400 yards in 100 grams; 100% superwash merino. Sleeves worked flat from cuff.
  • Gauge: 20 sts and 29 rows to 4 inches in stockinette stitch, blocked.
  • Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) for gauge and US 5 (3.75 mm) for bands.
  • Buttons: seven 15/16-inch (24 mm) buttons.
  • Finished size: 32.25, 35, 38.25, 41 [43.75, 47, 50.25, 53] inches.
  • To fit bust: to fit bust up to 3 inches smaller than finished sweater.
