Quote & Estimate Builder: Exact Totals with Tax, Discounts & Deposit (AI Agent Skill)
Turn a job description and your prices into a clean quote, with the math done by a script rather than guessed.
WHAT IT DOES
- Line items with quantity, unit, unit price, taxable flag and optional per-line discount
- Order discount (percent or fixed amount), one sales-tax rate, optional taxable shipping
- Deposit percentage with balance due, plus quote date and valid-until date
- Exact totals from a Decimal calculator (rounded half-up to the cent)
- Outputs quote.md, a printable quote.html (save as PDF from your browser), quote.csv and quote.json
- Adds only the terms you approve, from an optional terms library
WHAT'S IN THE DOWNLOAD
SKILL.md, the calculator script, an input template, a terms library, a worked painting-job example and 10 automated tests.
LIMITS
Uses the prices and tax rate you give it. It doesn't look up tax rates or suggest what to charge. One tax rate and one currency per quote.
REQUIREMENTS
- An AI agent that supports Agent Skills and can run local commands (your own account with that tool). Uses the open Agent Skills format supported by Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and others.
- Python 3.8 or newer for the script. Standard library only, makes no network calls.
DRAFTS, NOT AUTOPILOT
This skill prepares drafts and reports for you to review. It never sends email, posts replies or contacts anyone. It works on what you paste or export; it doesn't connect to your email, accounting or review sites.
AI-ASSISTED
Built with AI assistance. This skill's script passes the automated tests listed above on Python 3.8 and 3.13. Your own AI agent writes the drafts, so read every draft before it reaches a customer.
YOUR DATA
The script runs on your computer and makes no network calls. Your agent sees the content you give it under your agent/model provider's terms.
