Working with relationships and families doesn’t need to be overwhelming and stressful! This is the training series for those who are ready to approach relational psychotherapy with confidence. Even if you're working strictly with individual clients, you'll be able to use these skills to craft conversations about how to collaborate with partners on topics such as depression and anxiety.

If you've done individual work with married or dating clients struggling with depression and anxiety, then you know how important their relationship is to their success. Partners are a powerful part of many of our clients' lives, whether or not we ever meet them. Unfortunately, few training programs prepare mental health practitioners to be be able to work with individual clients in ways that specifically invite a supportive team approach with partners who don't attend therapy with them. By teaching our clients skills for updating their partners on their clinical work and inviting them into the healing process, we can help our clients grow closer in their relationship as a part of their individual clinical work with us. This workshop will help prepare participants to include relational well-being and strengths in work with partnered clients who see us individually, by focusing on the common presenting concerns of anxiety and depression as examples. While some guidance on working with anxiety and depression is included, the main focus is on using those as examples of how to work on a wide variety of clinical topics through a relational lens while doing individual work.

Orion Neustifter (they/them), PhD, RP, and RMFT from Ontario, Canada shows participants how to help clients connect with their partners to become a powerful team in addressing what is commonly thought of as individual issues. We’ll explore different approaches to help clients and their partners grow into recognizing the relational aspects of individual concerns, and to stop expecting each other to grow and heal in isolation. After all, if problems are big enough to impact our relationships then healing and strengths can also grow from these important connections. This training comes from a position of community and interconnection, because taking a team approach to our individual struggles is also an important avenue for decolonization inside the therapy room and beyond.

This training includes access to the live online workshop, a recording of the live online workshop, pdf copies of all worksheets/handouts to help you use the techniques you’ve just learned, and a pdf copy of the slide presentation. Each registration comes with the ability to access files twice through this page; you can log in here or use the information emailed to you (be sure to check your spam).
