Jacob’s Ladder is a set of wooden steps that lead from a beach in Sidmouth, Devon up to the beautiful Connaught Gardens. They have been there as long as anyone can remember. These top down socks have a step pattern flowing from top to toe along the outer edge of the front of the socks. There are instructions for three different circumferences of the foot.

I completed the socks shown in West Yorkshire Spinners 4ply sock yarn in colourway Bubblegum with a splodge of Cuddlebums Yarn on the toe of the second sock as I was trying to use up my sock stash but they would work well in both solids or varigated yarn or even in stripes picking out the steps, now there’s an idea.

Yarn used: Fingering or sock weight yarn 60 to 80 grams (I used 70 grams for a size 7, medium circumference sock)

Foot circumferences:

Small – 7.5 inches – 56 stitches

Medium – 8.5 inches – 64 stitches

Large – 9.5 inches – 72 stitches
