Pay What Works: In an effort to find a balance between more financial accessibility and sustainable pricing, I now offer a “Pay What Works” model. This allows for financial flexibility while still valuing and respecting the work and energy I and others provide in the making of this pattern. The price shown on Ravelry is the “true” value of the pattern that best reflects the work put into creating this design.

To purchase the pattern at a price point that is more accessible to you, use the coupon code at checkout listed next to the price point. The prices indicate the price you will pay, not the discount amount. No coupon code is needed for the highest price point.

The Rau Mitts are inspired by my childhood memories of collecting leaves and admiring the intricate and delicate shapes and lines of the veins. The textured and slip stitches running up the body of the mitt is meant to evoke that imagery.

These mitts are worked flat in pieces (with a in-the-round version coming very soon) then seamed together. This pattern features an unusual construction, so photo images and schematics are provided to help make sure you are on the right track.

One of my favorite features about these mitts is that it easily adjustable for different hand sizes and length, so this is a recipe style pattern. That’s the beauty of knitting, creating, making… tailoring the design/pattern to make it fit YOU the way you want it.

YARN
  • Yardage depends on the size and length of each mitt, but one skein of DK weight yarn is enough. You can use a kitchen scale to help split the skein of yarn into two evenly sized cakes.
  • DK/8-ply
  • Superwash merino is the top recommendation for this project, but any animal-based fiber that allows for elasticity works well.
  • Subculture Yarn SW Merino Double Knit (100% Superwash Merino; 100 g/285 yds; 261 m). In colorway Black Pearl.

NEEDLES
US 6/4 mm circular needle.

GAUGE
  • 24 sts and 32 rows = 4 in./10 cm
  • Gauge is not crucial to this project.

NOTIONS
  • Stitch markers
  • Darning/tapestry needle
