Increasing Participation of Refugees in European schools

This course equips teachers and youth workers with the essential skills to create inclusive, supportive classrooms for refugee and newly arrived students. Through seven comprehensive modules, participants will explore key aspects of refugee inclusion: inclusive teaching practices, cultural sensitivity, conflict resolution, psychosocial support, adaptability, community building, and innovative teaching methods.

By mastering these areas, you will gain the knowledge and confidence to reduce stress, strengthen belonging, and foster resilience in diverse learning environments. Each unit provides practical, bite-sized tools—from classroom routines and empathy-building activities to flexible teaching strategies and peer support structures—that can be applied immediately.

Whether you are welcoming refugee students for the first time or seeking to deepen your inclusive practice, this course empowers you to build classrooms where every learner feels safe, valued, and ready to thrive.

Story of the Partnership and Purpose of the Course

The REFINC partnership began with a simple question: how can schools become places where every child—especially those forced to leave their homes—feels safe and ready to learn?

Across Europe, seven organisations came together, each bringing their own piece of the puzzle. A Spanish school rooted in strong values, a Bosnian teacher-training centre with hands-on experience in refugee education, a Slovenian SME shaping digital tools, a Portuguese hub full of creativity and evaluation know-how, a Polish foundation pushing innovative teacher methods, and a Serbian organisation adapting its unique learning approach for vulnerable children. At the centre, LIFE4YOU in Slovenia, turning all these ideas into accessible, bite-sized e-learning for teachers.

What unites them is more than expertise—it’s heart. Together they believe inclusion is not a theory, but a daily practice: greeting students warmly, making routines predictable, teaching empathy, and giving every child a voice.

REFINC is more than a project. It’s a shared journey to make classrooms across Europe places of belonging, resilience, and hope.

This course is designed to empower participants to become dynamic leaders in the digital space. By providing essential skills in financial management, digital citizenship, civic engagement, and entrepreneurial innovation, the course ensures that young leaders are prepared to make meaningful contributions to their communities. It equips them with the knowledge to excel in virtual environments, fostering the next generation of leaders ready to take on the challenges of a digital future.
