This jumbo pumpkin is a joy to knit. Cables twine over the surface, reminiscent of garden vines. Knit in the super-bulky yarn called for, your pumpkin will be a statement piece, but it will be amazing knit in any weight yarn.
Skills Needed: Working in the round, cabling, kfb, kfbf, and m1p increases, k2tog and p2tog decreases, i-cord.
Diameter: 14 in. [35.6 cm]; Circumference: 39 in. [99.1 cm]; Height: 9 in. [22.9 cm] (not including stem).
Stem Length (beginning at addition of new color): 15 in. [38.1 cm].
Diameter and height will vary depending on amount of fiberfill used.
Yarn:
Main Color: 3 skeins Malabrigo Rasta (Super Bulky; 100% Merino; 90 yds/150 grams) in Sunset.
Contrast Color: 1 skein Malabrigo Rasta (Super Bulky; 100% Merino; 90 yds/150 grams) in Arequita. (I used about one-half skein for stem and 1 long tendril).
Needles: US size 10 ½ (6.5 mm) double pointed needles and 16 in. [40 cm] circular needles.
Gauge: 12.25 sts and 19.5 rnds = 4" [10 cm] in charted pattern stitch, after blocking. This pattern is worked at a tighter gauge than normal so that the fiberfill does not show through fabric.
Other Materials: 1 stitch marker for beginning of round, additional stitch markers if desired, cable needle, tapestry needle, 1 bag (16 oz.) polyester fiberfill.
