The stockinette and lace pattern in the Race Day Spa Cloth reminds me of pennants one might see on the
day of a big race - like the one between the Tortoise and the Hare. This cloth is knit sideways, using pima cotton to create a soft, luxurious and pampering facial cloth, like all the cloths in the Folk Tales Spa Cloth series.
Skills Needed: k2tog and ssk decreases, yarn overs, slipping stitches.
Size: Approximately 8 x 8 inches [20.3 x 20.3 cm].
Yarn: 1 skein Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima Fine (Sport/5 ply; 100% Pima Cotton; 136.7 yds/50 grams).
Needles: US size 4 [3.5 mm] or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 22 sts and 44 rows = 4" [10 cm] in garter stitch. Gauge is not critically important.
The key to this pattern is using the correct needle size for the yarn - one which allows the lace pattern to be open just enough to show, but not so much that it loses its definition. If substituting yarn, try the largest needle size recommended on the ball band, or even one size larger. You may have to experiment a bit to find the look you like.
Other Materials: 1 stitch marker, additional markers if desired, tapestry needle.
