A Fancy by Gibbons
An arrangement for brass quintet of a 4-part contrapuntal organ piece by Renaissance English composer Orlando Gibbons.
Duration c. 2.5 mins
Information
Orlando Gibbons was a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, where he was junior chapel organist. His output consisted of keyboard and string works, madrigals and sacred anthems.
This arrangement redistributes the 4-part contrapuntal texture among the five players of a brass quintet. The original organ piece is in the key of C major (the original title is "A Fancy in C fa ut"), but to suit the brass ensemble better, the key has been changed to Eb major.
