Herr Christ, der ein'ge Gottes-Sohn
Advent choral prelude from Orgelbüchlein (BWV 601), arranged for brass quintet.
Duration c. 2 mins
Information
This is an arrangement of an Advent chorale prelude from J. S. Bach's Orgelbüchlein. The chorale has two titles: the one given above, which means "Lord Christ, the only Son of God"; and "Herr Gott, nun sei gepreiset", which means "Lord God, now be praised". So both titles have positive and joyous connotations.
The metronome marking and dynamics are editorial, so may be changed. The suggested tempo is likely a little slower than many organists would choose, to account for the different technique of brass instruments. Nonetheless, the piece should flow along confidently.
The key has been changed to Ab major from the original of A major, so as to better suit the brass ensemble.
