Black at Night: Case No. 5 (The Frontenac Sisters: Supernatural Sleuths & Monster Hunters)
One story can destroy everything.
August Shelley's voice is intoxicating. One word will paint a vivid image in your mind. A sentence will imprison your attention. Listen to an entire story, and you'll question what's real.
The first time Nelly Huggett hears "Never Fear" at a school assembly, she's drugged by his voice, hypnotized by his words, and utterly petrified. But she's not just hypnotized.
She feels like she's been trapped, inside the story.
When Shelley takes his show to the Sterling Renaissance Festival in upstate New York, the mystery of the man's unusual artistry deepens. For his hypnotic tales don't just enrapture audiences, but propel them into horrific nightmares.
Nightmares about a beast, just like the one in Shelley's signature story. Nightmares that hint he isn't just any storyteller, and everyone in his audience is in danger. If the Frontenac sisters don't stop him, the whole world might be next.
For August Shelley proves that stories aren't just an escape. Dreams aren't nonsense. Nightmares are very real. And truth is just as strange as fiction.
A Note About Series Reading Order
This series can be read in or out of order. Each book covers a different supernatural case, and so can stand alone, however, the emotional arcs and personal lives of the two main characters evolve from book to book. Each book also refers to past cases, and these references could contain spoilers.
If reading in order, do it this way:

Case No. 2--Severed Souls
Case No. 3--Death Knell
Case No. 4--The Shadow Mind
Case No. 5--Black at Night
Case No. 6--The Only Constant, publishing in 2025
If you're starting this series with a book other than Case No. 1, please take a look at my Reading Out of Order Guide, which can be found at the back of each book in the series. This includes helpful summaries that will give you just enough background not to get lost. Please be aware that the summaries do contain minor spoilers.
