TME Performance Dance Years 10–11 | Ages 14–16 | KS4
TME Performance Contemporary Dance is a creative seven-lesson Scheme of Learning for Years 10–11 Core PE. It enables pupils to develop sophisticated movement material, make purposeful choreographic decisions and perform with greater technical control, expression and confidence.
The sequence begins with contemporary style replication and advanced phrase transformation. Pupils then use Action, Space, Dynamics and Relationships, structured improvisation and chance choreography to generate original material. Subsequent lessons develop motifs, duet relationships and consent, before translating a stimulus into complex group form and a clear climax. The programme concludes with contemporary technique, production choices, rehearsal leadership, performance showcases, analytical evaluation and reflective refinement.
The 16-page resource includes two curriculum and assessment pages, seven detailed one-page lesson plans and seven corresponding infographics. The introductory pages provide curriculum context, progression, Know and Show outcomes, specialist vocabulary, inclusion, assessment and guidance for safe, respectful creative work.
Every lesson contains:
- Head, Heart and Hands learning objectives
- Timed Warm-up, Explore, Develop, Apply and Plenary phases
- Clearly defined rehearsal zones, groupings and performance expectations
- Technical, expressive and compositional teaching points
- Progressive creative tasks rather than prescribed routines alone
- STEP differentiation for movement complexity, space, relationships and support
- AfL through observation, feedback, rehearsal evidence and performance
- Explicit guidance on safe movement, respectful contact and consent
- SEND and EAL support using demonstration, imagery, gesture and structured roles
- Detailed Plan–Monitor–Reflect questions and evaluative oracy prompts
This scheme gives teachers a clear structure for delivering ambitious contemporary dance while preserving creativity, choice and pupil ownership.
