Ninomaru Garden: The Imperial Gardens of the Tokyo Imperial Palace
The Ninomaru Garden, located in the second circle of defense (Ninomaru) of the Tokyo Imperial Palace, was once home to the most important palace buildings. The Edo Castle, residence of the Tokugawa shoguns from 1603 to 1867, and later the Meiji emperor, is surrounded by these gardens. Open only on New Year's Day and the Emperor's birthday, the garden offers a rare glimpse into the palace grounds.
