In the shallow straights separating Denmark and Sweden, there is a small group of mermaids guarding the waters between the salty waves of the North Sea and the brackish water of the Baltic Sea. In winter when the ice is threatening to catch small boats the mermaids flick their tails to break it up and free them, all while helping sea creatures to find their way home if they’ve ventured too far into unknown waters. One of these mermaids is Eivor, and this is her shawl.
The shawl was created for Fine Fish Yarns Advent calendar 2019 and released as an MKAL. The contrast colour can be in the same yarn base as the main shawl but will be more effectful if knitted in a surisilk heavy lace.
The largest size uses up 90g (380m) of 2 of the yarns in the sock yarn base, (425m/100g), which makes that size unsuitable for yarn bases under 400m/100g, unless you are willing to gamble on playing yarn chicken. The XL size (pictured) is shawlanket size and is written to use up most of the yarn from the skeins, but if you have a small statue you might find it too large.

Yarn 1: 400m/440yds Fine Fish Yarns sock in Mauve
Yarn CC: 250m/275yds Fine Fish Yarns Suri Silk, 300m/50g
Yarn 2: 380m/415yds Fine Fish Yarns sock in Medium purple
Yarn 3: 280m/310yds Fine Fish Yarns sock in Light purple
Needle: 3.75 mm (US5) circular needles 80-100cm, or needles to get gauge, for DK: 4.5 mm (US7)
Gauge: 22 sts / 10 cm unblocked, not crucial to get exact gauge, but keep it close
Notions: stitch marker, optional extra needle for the cast on, scrap yarn for cast on.
