What is a Handbook?

A handbook is a comprehensive book that shortens the length of time readers need to absorb complex information by providing a practical, visual-laden, condensed guide.

It is one of the newest methods of teaching through the use of visuals, together with key issues, over just data and text.

Research has found that this method greatly increases our capacity to learn, problem-solve and create. It allows students to reach their goals faster and is considered a more enjoyable way to learn.

What makes a great eye-catching photo?

There is something about images that makes them highly memorable and that in itself makes them valuable - to businesses, to marketers, to publishers, and to the internet. Imagery can trigger memories, emotions, appetites, yearnings, and even affect our decision making. When creating images, it is important to understand the power behind imagery and how we can translate that into the photography that we produce.

What people are saying ...

Artboard 1

What I have always been impressed with (and have never managed to reproduce in my own work) is Annie's skill in creating immaculate and enticing food photography. It seems so simple to create a nice vibrant image of a plate of food with some styling elements, but, trust me, it is not! To not only create enticing imagery of food and then to make you feel like you can smell and taste the food as though it is placed in front of you is a skill I have never been able to master on my own.

And now, Annie has distilled all that knowledge and experience into a comprehensive, but easy to read, handbook. And not only that, she has expanded well beyond the photography aspects to explain about the best way to work through what you are really trying to achieve with your business and how great photography can help you expand your audience and ultimately, your success.

I have learned so much just reading the book and can't wait to get started on using all the ideas and approaches she suggests in my own work!

Backyard Silver - Making money from your photos

Having been lucky enough to be allowed to read through this new guidebook it is safe to say that anyone with even a fleeting interest in food photography is in excellent hands when starting on their food photography journey - which is quite specialist compared to other forms.

Annie has broken down the psychology of what it takes to enhance your skillset in food photography, from colours, textures, set design and lighting through to technicalities of camera operation. There are useful worksheets to help everyone document their progress as they make their way through this knowledgeable guide, which I personally believe is an excellent way to journal for anyone starting this particular subject matter.

With Annie's compassionate wording and simple to understand methods, it is easy to understand how she got to such a great position in shooting food as subject matter, and she wants you to succeed too. Overall, this is an excellent guidebook for anyone starting in food photography and you won't go wrong with someone like Annie guiding you each step. Happy reading.

About the Author

Located in sunny South Australia, Annie of Milleflore Images has been selling photography for over 10 years. Her philosophy has always been, 'when they zig, you zag', and she went on to sell over 200,000 photos and videos over the next 8 years by offering imagery that was different to what was available at that time. “Basically, what you need are images that stand out from the crowd.”

With diplomas in photography and graphic design, a Bachelor of Business and a background in accounting, marketing and teaching, her aim is to teach bloggers and photographers how to create the most compelling photographs that look as delicious as they taste.

“My father was a chef, so I am a total foodie, loving every moment from planning what to shoot, the prep and cooking, through to the whole process of photographing and editing the final images.”

“What I have found is that to get ahead in this highly competitive field, you need a lot of inspiration, some perspiration, and knowing the science behind creating irresistible imagery” – Annie, Milleflore Images
