Tree Fantasia

Composed for Merton College chapel and organ, Oxford, this piece is inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien, who was a fellow at Merton. Tolkien loved trees, which feature heavily in his writings. This fantasia takes as its direct inspiration The Two Trees of Valinor from The Silmarillion - a silver tree and a golden tree, which light up the kingdom of Valinor.
