Charlemagne Fighters

The Waffen SS French Fighters, also known as the French Charlemagne Division, was a division of the Waffen-SS composed of French volunteers who fought on the side of Nazi Germany during World War II. The division was formed in 1944 and saw action on the Eastern Front, fighting against the Soviet Union. The division was notorious for its brutality towards civilians and prisoners of war, and many of its members were former members of the French collaborationist organization, the Milice. Despite its atrocities, the Waffen SS French Fighters gained a reputation for being a fanatical and effective fighting force, and many of its members were fiercely loyal to the Nazi cause until the end of the war. After the war, many members of the division were tried and convicted for their crimes, and the French government banned former members from serving in the military or holding public office.
