Eyelet diagonals set at cross-purposes to the cables and central spine bring a fresh energy to this top-down triangle. Using fingering weight yarn, show off the vibrant hues of gradient colourways or highlight the strong geometry of a solid colour.
The Gradience Shawl is a classic triangular shape knit from the top down, starting with a garter tab using a Turkish Cast On.
This knitting pattern includes both charts and written instructions.

Substitution Notes
Choose a worsted weight yarn with some elasticity; so wool and wool blends would be great; acrylics should work, but steer clear of alpaca and plant fibres unless they're blended with wool. Use this pattern as a stash busting opportunity to use up those odds and ends of colour. Just imagine each stripe and bobble being a different colour.
A smooth, fingering weight yarn most blends would be suitable.
Get creative with the two balls of gradient yarn. With two balls of the same colourway, alternate every two rows to create wider sections of colour or join the balls end to end to match the same colour in the middle of the project. One ball will be worked from the inside and the other from the outside, with the shawl beginning and ending with the same colour. With two separate colourways, as in the sample shawl, choose balls that share a common colour on the inside or outside of the ball so the join is not noticeable in the colour progression.
Choose two gradient packs of mini-skeins or a solid with one set of mini-skeins. This design is very versatile.
