The latest issue of Bauelemente Bau—one of the most respected trade journals in our industry—offers a sobering look at the current state of the German window and door market.
And the message is clear: caution is warranted.
⸻
📉 Demand is falling—for the second year in a row
In 2023, 14.9 million window units were installed in Germany, marking a 5.5% decline.
New construction is stagnating. Renovation remains stable—but even that segment is feeling the strain.
⸻
📌 PVC windows still dominate the market, holding a 58.5% share.
But these are no longer the plain white windows of the past.
Designs like Jet Black, matte finishes, and aluminum-look surfaces are gaining momentum.
📌 Aluminum windows are seeing a slight decline, wood remains flat, and there’s growing interest in composite solutions.
Today’s buyers are asking for:
✔️ Energy efficiency
✔️ Low maintenance
✔️ Recyclable materials
✔️ A clear and intentional aesthetic identity
⸻
And if you think this is just “their” problem—think again.
A drop in demand in Germany doesn’t stay in Germany.
It affects exports, supply chains, and investor behavior—across Europe, including here.
We won’t feel it all at once.
But we will feel it.
Soon.
That’s why now is the time to prepare—strategically, thoughtfully, and ahead of the curve.
