Her love for animals became a part of her career life when she began studying animal behaviorism, wanting to incorporate both writing and working with animals into her daily life. Most of Carly's earlier stories involved animal characters with human-type personalities. While she enjoyed writing fantasy using the anthropomorphic approach, her understanding of the shamanic way of thinking urged her to take a more factual route on occasion. Hence, her first eBook was based on animal totems and spirit animals.

Her passion for writing books centered on self-discovery, the universe and nature (often with a hint of humor) allowed her to create works that would ultimately benefit readers, young and old, on a personal and somewhat spiritual level rather than just serve as forms of entertainment. Understanding how easily a human's spirit can be affected by circumstances in the twenty-first century, and believing in the coming of a new dawn, she chose to focus on using her thoughts and writings to assist individuals in areas of life where help is not always close at hand.
