Feeling Stuck? Here’s How Tarot Can Help You Move Forward

I’m your stereotypical Pisces–indecision for eons! Give me a simple choice between two options and I’ll weigh them for an eternity; give me just one option and you’ll find me tapping my own foot, muttering, "I’m still thinking about it!”

As you can imagine, if I have this much delay in the little decisions–like what to have for dinner tonight or what to wear tomorrow–then the big decisions can lead to full stops.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, you’re not alone! Having to make decisions can be tricky, scary, or even soul-crushing. The bigger the decision, the harder it can be to move forward. We all need a little help to get us back on track. Tarot is one tool we can use to help us get unstuck.

When I need to get unstuck, I often turn to my Tarot decks. Even a short reading helps me to explore those nagging options. It gives me the space and time I need to clear my mind, the clarity I need for weighing those options fairly, and the insights I need to work out which is the best path forward for me.

Why It’s Okay to Sit in the Unknown

Part of what gets us stuck in the first place is our fear of the unknown. The future is scary. We already know–or can find out–what happened in the past. We can look around us to see what’s happening in the present. But no matter how many possibilities we dream up, we can’t know what the future will be like. The future is unknowable.

It’s okay to sit in these feelings. Our feelings always serve a purpose, and that’s a good thing. What we do with those feelings, though, is where problems can happen. In the case of fear of the unknown, those problems can include getting stuck. We can get stuck with a negative thought about ourselves, other people, or the world around us.

It’s only by sitting with these feelings that we can gain clarity about what purpose they're serving. That clarity—understanding the root of the fear—is what ultimately shows us what's holding us back and how we can gently address it.

How Tarot Helps You Move Forward

A Tarot reading can take the edge off that scariness that gets us stuck. It lets us put some limits on our thinking about the future. Rather than succumbing to the fears of a worst case scenario, Tarot helps us consider the things we need to focus on no matter what scenario plays out. The choices we make do impact our futures. But our worst fears aren’t guaranteed any more than our biggest wishes.

Tarot gives you a mirror to see what's behind those feelings. The insights from a reading help you accept them, identify their root causes, and uncover what you can do to navigate them. Once you have these insights and clarity, you can make a more well-rounded decision; that next step forward.

Tarot Reflection for Getting Unstuck

The next time you find yourself feeling stuck, try a simple 3-card spread:

  1. What energy is keeping me stuck?
  2. What do I need to see more clearly?
  3. What should I focus on to move forward?

You might not have all the answers yet—and that’s okay. The first step is understanding what’s happening beneath the surface. Tarot won’t make the decision for you, but it can show you what matters most as you decide. You deserve clarity, support, and forward motion—and that’s exactly what Tarot can offer.

If you're ready to move from feeling stuck to finding clear, actionable direction, my Embodied Tarot Sessions are designed for exactly this. We'll use the cards to explore what's holding you back and map out your next steps together. Learn more and book your session here.
