Several people have asked if this would work in a co-op setting — and the answer is yes!
The course runs 14 weeks and works well as a once-per-week class, with at home material for the other two days.
If you have access to a kitchen at your co-op, you can choose to do the cooking portion together with the reading independently at home. Or, you can complete the activity and questions together with the reading and cooking done at home.

Students cook every week, except week 1.
Every other week includes a cooking lesson that connects to the nutrition topic being studied. These recipes are intentionally simple and approachable so students can practice real kitchen skills while reinforcing the science they are learning. Some of the cooking lessons include: baked oatmeal, an electrolyte drink, ground beef taco bowl, egg salad.

Because the curriculum is designed for a range of grade levels, the amount of support needed will depend on the age and experience of the student. Many students can work through much of the material independently, but younger students may benefit from more guidance. For example, a 5th grade student may need some help with longer reading sections or with certain kitchen tasks, while a 7th grade student may be able to complete the readings on their own. The cooking lessons include clear, step-by-step instructions, but students who have not used the stove or kitchen knives before will likely need some supervision and support as they build those skills.
