About Me

Hi, I'm Kerryn O'Brien, a Dietitian and Psychologist and the creator of the Peaceful Plates Home Program.

For many families, mealtimes become stressful, emotional, and exhausting. Through my work with children and families, I've seen how anxiety, sensory sensitivities, and restrictive eating can affect not only what a child eats, but the wellbeing of the whole family.

That's why I created the Peaceful Plates Home Program™—an evidence-informed approach that combines psychology and nutrition to help parents reduce mealtime stress, build food confidence, and create calmer, more connected family meals.

My goal is simple: to give parents practical, compassionate strategies they can use at home, one small step at a time. No pressure. No blame. Just realistic support that respects your child's nervous system while helping them move towards more flexible eating.

I'm so glad you're here, and I look forward to being part of your family's journey toward calmer, more confident mealtimes.

Peaceful Plates Home Program

Helping children build confidence with food, one step at a time.

If every mealtime feels stressful, you're not alone.

The Peaceful Plates Home Program is a practical, evidence-based 4-week program created by Kerryn O'Brien, an Australian Dietitian and Psychologist, designed to help families reduce mealtime stress and gently support children who experience food anxiety, selective eating, or avoidant eating behaviours.

Rather than focusing on pressure or "just getting them to eat", Peaceful Plates Home Program helps parents create the safety, confidence and skills children need to explore food at their own pace.

A calmer mealtime is possible.

Start your journey today.

Does this sound familiar?

Every meal feels like a battle.

Your child eats only a small number of foods.

New foods cause anxiety or distress.

You worry your child isn't getting enough nutrition.

You've tried rewards, bargaining and pressure—but nothing lasts.

Mealtimes leave everyone feeling exhausted.

If so, you're not alone.

Peaceful Plates was developed to help families move away from conflict and towards calm, confident eating experiences.

Introducing The Peaceful Plates Method™

A simple four-step framework that supports lasting food confidence.

SAFE

Create emotional safety before expecting change.

Children learn best when they feel safe. Discover how to reduce pressure, understand your child's nervous system and build trust around food.

STEADY

Build predictable mealtime routines.

Learn practical strategies that help children feel calmer and more secure before, during and after meals.

SMALL

Take tiny brave steps.

Using food chaining, flavour bridging and gradual exposure, children develop confidence through manageable successes.

STRONG

Build lifelong confidence.

Support independence, resilience and flexible eating while learning how to manage setbacks without losing progress.

Using the Peaceful Plates Method SAFE-STEADY-SMALL-STRONG, you will learn how to support your child without pressure, power struggles, or bribery.

Created by a Dietitian & Psychologist

I'm Kerryn O'Brien, a Dietitian and Psychologist with many years of experience supporting children, adolescents and families.

Peaceful Plates combines nutritional science with psychology to provide practical, compassionate strategies that recognise that eating is influenced by emotions, learning, sensory experiences and relationships—not simply willpower.

My goal is to help families create calmer mealtimes while building children's confidence with food one step at a time.

Is this program right for you?

Peaceful Plates may be suitable if your child:

Is a selective or picky eater.

Experiences anxiety around food.

Avoids trying new foods.

Has a limited range of accepted foods.

Becomes distressed at mealtimes.

Would benefit from a gradual, supportive approach.

This program is designed to complement—not replace—individual assessment where more complex feeding difficulties or medical concerns are present.
