Wait. Is That a Head? (30% off SALE)

Hello Bloglandia!

How's your week been? I hope you've managed to dodge the worst of the heat, storms, fires, or whatever weather wackiness has been walloping your region of the world.

As for me, well, in addition to bearing the brunt of a heat wave and watching the indoor temps of my house climb to a cozy 85 degrees, there's a few exciting bits and bobs going on in my writing world.

But that's news for a later post.

That little teaser aside, today I wanted to share possibly the most fascinating bit of recent news (fascinating for me, anyway)...

One of my characters made the headlines!

Unfortunately, the headline wasn't that [insert favorite film studio] offered me a billion dollars to make a movie based on that character. Sigh.

No, the big news -- well, big in archaeological circles -- was the discovery of a couple hunks of carved stone found in Carlisle, England during an excavation at a cricket club.

Now, I know cricket matches can go on for a long time, but if your game goes on so long that archaeologists start digging around you, you might want to reconsider boosting the entertainment levels of your sport.

Nevertheless, once the diggers cleared away the dirt and debris, and did some analyses, they realized the stones date from the 3rd century CE and are very likely the heads from two 12- to 15-foot tall statues of

Roman emperor Septimius Severus and his wife Julia Domna.

What's this have to do with my characters, you ask?

Well, Julia Domna's marriage to and life with Severus was the direct inspiration for my historical fantasy novel Domna.

Although I don't mention it much, this novel (that's full of revenge. betrayal. passion, love triangles, and all that good stuff) is one of my favorite works. So, whenever news comes along of Domna, I always get stupidly giddy.

Time to celebrate the news, for once!

Which is why, to celebrate the discovery and to share my version of Domna's story with you...

No, I'm not taking you all to Rome with me. Maybe one day : )
