Shattered Dreams
This is one of the most important songs I’ve written, and I wanted to be very clear with the message. "Shattered Dreams" is an exploration of the brutal reality of domestic abuse, and I specifically wanted to take aim at that lazy, damaging misconception that women are somehow "drawn" to dangerous men or "bad boys."
The lyrics lean into the actual mechanics of why people stay—it’s never as simple as just walking out the door. I wanted to highlight the psychological cage that gets built through manipulation and fear, and the very real physical barrier of financial dependence that makes escaping feel like an impossible task.
Ultimately, the song is a call for empathy. Instead of asking "Why doesn't she leave?", I wanted the lyrics to make people understand the complexity of being trapped in that situation. It’s a powerful, heavy track, but it was written to challenge those surface-level judgments and offer some solidarity to anyone who has felt their own dreams being shattered by the person who was supposed to protect them.
