Walk in Boston # 2, the other North End
This self-guided tour takes you to quiet parts of the North End away from the Freedom Trail and its tourists (although you should also do that tour another day), along the old harbor wharves now converted into residences or hotels.
You will meet locals relaxing or playing boules, you will discover the merchant and maritime history of the place through explanatory panels, photo exhibitions and a small museum; you will also have the opportunity to buy fruits and vegetables in an open-air market on Fridays and Saturdays, in a covered market or a local grocery store 7 days a week.
In season, bring your swimsuit because you will find a public swimming pool in front of the ocean.
NB: if you have not already done so on another site, you can read the philosophy and general content of this itinerary by opening the “About the walks” link above or below.
