Walk in Boston # 2, the other North End
This self-guided tour takes you to quiet parts of the North End away from the Freedom Trail and its tourists (although you should also do this trail another day).
After starting south of the North End, you will soon be along the sea and old docks now transformed into residences or hotels; you will also make a few forays into the small streets of the neighborhood.
You will meet locals relaxing or playing bowls if the weather is nice, you will discover the merchant and maritime history of the place through explanatory panels, photo exhibitions and a small museum.
You will also have the opportunity to buy fruits and vegetables in an open-air market on Fridays and Saturdays, in an indoor market or a local grocery store 7 days a week.
In season, bring your swimsuit because you will find a public swimming pool in front of the ocean.
NB: if you have not already done so on another site, you can read the philosophy and general content of this itinerary by opening the “About the walks” link above or below.
