- Notes from the Artist: At heart, I have always been an artist. Through art, I can express what I see and feel as I take in the tiny details of a flower, or the majesty of a mountain range. Photography helps me become a part of the world’s beauty, and it teaches me patience as I wait for the perfect shift of light, or for a heron to snap up its dinner. In a way, photography chose me as much as I chose it. In this image, a sandhill crane, among the most elegant, graceful, as well as oldest-living bird species, symbolizes tranquility to me. It caught my eye with its regal stance just after a sunset landing, bringing to mind a prima ballerina spreading her arms while taking a bow to an appreciative audience.
