“St Disen’s”
St Disen’s is a charming parish church in Bradninch, steeped in history. Dating to the 15th century, it was restored in the 19th, including restoration of the tower following a great storm in 1886. The church stands overlooking the town centre.
I also believe this to be the best view of the church in all it’s glory. This shot was taken from the graveyard, a solemn yet serene location, overlooking neighbouring fields and accessible via a route off Beacon Hill. I always enjoy this diversion when strolling around the town, a calm place to gather my thoughts, or indeed let them go.
A large conifer overhangs the path alongside St Disen’s and frames the image to the right. Including the three headstones in the foreground seemed pleasingly balanced; ‘omnium, trium, perfectum’. The weather was glorious for landscape photography here, a mix of sunshine, blue skies and clouds. At this moment, the sun was lighting the Celtic Cross headstone like a beacon, creating a competing focal point to the church itself. Could it be signifying a deeper meaning?
Tech Specs: Shot on Canon 6D @ 24mm, ISO 400, f/13, 1/500 sec. Enhanced in Lightroom. JPEG download only.
