Kitson Quote and Proposal Builder: Three Priced Options and a Proposal Letter, Margins Checked (Opus 5.5)
Quoting takes an evening. And a discount you guess at can quietly eat your margin.
You're tired, you round a number, you give a discount to win the job, and you don't find out what it cost you until the job is done. Meanwhile the proposal goes out late, in a plain email, while somebody else's lands first.
Kitson Quote and Proposal Builder turns your own price list, your rules and your customer's email into a finished quote:
- Claude Opus 5.5 reads the request and suggests lines from your price list for three options: good, better and best. It also lists the questions a good seller would ask before quoting.
- You confirm every line on screen: the item, the quantity, the discount and which options it's in. Nothing is priced until you do, and changing it and confirming again is free.
- The app prices all three options in code: volume prices, line discounts, bundle rules, tax, a deposit and a payment schedule.
- Then Claude writes the proposal letter: the scope, the assumptions, what's not included, the three options in plain words, and a list of what's still missing before it goes out.
What makes it different
- Every figure comes from code on your computer, from your own price list. The AI suggests the lines and writes the words; it never sets a price.
- Every line is checked against your own rules: a line that sells below its unit cost is flagged as a loss, and lines under your minimum margin or over your discount limit are flagged for a second look.
- A what-if on your internal sheet shows what a discount really costs: how many more sales you'd need to pay for it, and what a price rise would do to your margin.
- Every amount in the letter is checked in code against the app's own figures. The only deadline it allows is the validity date you set. Pressure wording, fake urgency, costs, margins and contact details are caught, and a letter that fails is marked "Do not send as written" and left out of the customer proposal.
- Your unit costs, margins, discount limit and margin floor never leave your computer. The customer's email is sent with email addresses, phone numbers and street addresses removed, and you can see exactly what will be sent before anything goes.
- The cost is shown before every step, and you set a limit. In our own test on a made-up business, a whole quote (both steps) cost about 21 cents on our own Anthropic account.
- A Word proposal for the customer with the letter and the priced tables, a CSV of the quote lines (no costs), and a separate INTERNAL margin sheet in Excel, just for you. The customer copy never shows your margin.
What you need
- Free Node.js 18+ (Windows, Mac or Linux).
- Your own Anthropic account and API key, with a little credit. A Claude chat subscription does not include API access.
- Your price list as a CSV (code, item, unit, price, unit cost, and volume tiers if you have them), or use the made-up sample in the zip to try it first.
You pay Anthropic directly for what you use, on top of the price of the app.
