TME Development OAA Orienteering Years 3–4 | Ages 7–9 | Lower KS2
Turn your school grounds into an exciting learning environment with six progressive Orienteering lessons for Years 3–4, each designed for approximately 55–60 minutes.
Pupils begin by developing team roles, tactical cooperation and safe routines. They then learn about plan views, features and map symbols, how to orientate a map and follow short routes, and how to complete a star course while recording controls accurately. Later lessons introduce route choice and score-course tactics before a final team orienteering challenge brings the learning together.
The scheme opens with curriculum, assessment and inclusion guidance. Every lesson is supported by a detailed written plan and matching visual infographic, including outcomes, vocabulary, equipment, timings, organisation, safety procedures, AfL questions, Head–Heart–Hands assessment, STEP differentiation, SEND and EAL strategies and Plan–Monitor–Reflect prompts.
Its greatest strength is the clear transition from simple spatial ideas to independent navigation and tactical route choice. Physical activity is combined with geography, mathematics, communication and problem-solving. Clearly defined boundaries and routines make the adventurous learning manageable, inclusive and practical within a school environment.
