TME Development Invasion Games Years 3–4 | Ages 7–9 | Lower KS2
Develop transferable game understanding with this substantial 12-lesson Invasion Games scheme for Years 3–4. Each lesson provides approximately 55–60 minutes of purposeful activity.
The first six lessons establish the shared principles of invasion games: passing and receiving, moving to create space, creating scoring chances, maintaining possession, defending an attack and applying attacking and defensive ideas in games. Pupils then transfer that understanding into netball through passing, receiving, footwork, space, scoring and marking, before developing basketball dribbling, passing, shooting and defending. The final lesson supports transfer, application and assessment.
The package includes introductory curriculum, assessment and inclusion guidance plus a detailed plan and visual infographic for every lesson. It features clear outcomes, vocabulary, equipment, organisation, AfL, Head–Heart–Hands assessment, STEP differentiation, SEND and EAL support, safety and Plan–Monitor–Reflect prompts.
Its strength is coherence: pupils learn tactical principles once and apply them across different sports. This develops adaptable thinkers rather than children who can only repeat isolated techniques, while small-sided games keep participation, communication and decision-making high.
