All the Jigs & Reels

1. As both a knitter and an Irish dancer, I have taken inspiration from the 7 solo dances and used elements from each of them to create design features for the different patterns. The patterns, available both singly and in the e-book, are:

• Light Reel Cowl (released Sept 26, 2018)
• Light Jig Tam (released October 9, 2018)
• Single Jig Mittens (released December 11, 2018)
• Single Jig Mitties (variant step; released December 11, 2018)
• Slip Jig Scarf (released February 5, 2019)
• Treble Reel Toque (released February 26, 2020)
• Treble Jig Legwarmers (released June 6, 2020)
• Hornpipe Bag (released July 18, 2023)

You will notice one dance has two patterns; variant steps are often arranged by a teacher if a student is either excelling above or falling a bit behind their classmates.

Each pattern starts with a short introduction explaining how the design relates to the dance it is named for.

Also included are photo tutorials for some lesser known methods I used. I have made these separate files for ease of use with more than one pattern where applicable.

And for those of you not familiar with and/or wanting to know more about the Irish dance terms used in my introduction paragraphs, there is a short glossary in the introductory pdf to guide you along.

And now it’s time to cast on… or as is said in class: 7-2-3, and off you go!
