Lines cross and intersect; small blocks are neatly aligned; pathways, buildings, parks, fields and roads seem to form a grid, tiny and varied. Sense of scale is lost. All these puzzle pieces are fascinating and captivating. I can easily get lost looking at satellite imagery; scrolling past cities, villages and seemingly flat landscapes. The absence of scale makes the tiny colorful patches look like the pieces of a giant jigsaw puzzle.

The Urbanology cowl is inspired by these seemingly small building blocks. The cowl uses a mosaic stitch pattern featuring squares forming a network of lines like paths. For added fun, one colorway is slightly variegated, creating extra depth and variation. Come along for a walk, crisscross over the landscape and city!

Urbanology is worked with easy and fun mosaic knitting using two colorways, one of which being slightly variegated. The cowl is worked flat and then joined in the round seamlessly with either kitchener or a three-needle bind-off (there are tutorials for mosaic-knitting, kitchener, and the three-needle bind-off). The pattern gives suggestions to work the cowl as a scarf.

Did you always wanted to try out mosaic knitting? Then this pattern is for you! The Urbanology cowl pattern comes with a video tutorial to learn how to work mosaic stitches and how to read mosaic charts. Of course, the written instructions are also included so that you can choose and have the Urbanology cowl your way. And if you'd like to try more mosaic knitting, be sure to check out the Townhouse cowl!
