Pholiage

Dianthuses are one of my favorite flowers. They come in a variety of rounded shapes, with one or several rows of small petals. Some are notched. Some are fringed. Some have several colors, patterns or speckles. Some even grow high up on mountain ranges. They’re all lovely, and I love them especially because of their fragrance.

The Pholiage scarf is inspired by garden borders, with their roses and dianthuses. Lace stitch patterns grow in a crescendo from the center of the scarf towards the airy lacy sides. With its incredible drape and softness, a silk yarn enhances the delicacy of the lace patterning.

This stylish, lacy scarf is the perfect summer project! It knits fast with the yarn held double, starting from the center with a provisional cast-on that you really need in your knitter's arsenal! ;-)

The silk yarn will keep you cool and protect you from the summer breeze if necessary. The scarf has a good length; you can wrap it twice around your neck or wear it folded in two.

You can also work the scarf as a stole with two 100 grams skeins of the suggested yarn. In that case, I'd suggest working a width of around 58 cm / 22.75 inches.

Yarn
Bart & Francis Powdersoft Silk (Lace; 100% Silk; 700 meters / 766 yards per 100 grams); 1 skein; sample uses 59 grams in color Purple.

Needles
4.5 mm (US size 7) 100 cm / 40 inches circular needle or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge
18.5 stitches and 28 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette stitch, unblocked with yarn held double.
16 stitches and 24 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette stitch, blocked with yarn held double.
16 stitches and 21 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in stitch pattern D – Roses & Dianthuses, blocked with yarn held double.
Note: obtaining the gauge given is not crucial but will affect the finished size and the yardage needed.

Notions
Stitch markers (optional): 2 in color A, 4 removable stitch markers in color B. Waste yarn (or spare circular needle cable). Shorter cable (60 cm / 24 inches) for the working needle. Tapestry needle. Blocking pins. Blocking wires (optional).

Size
One; easily customizable.

Final measurements
Width (w): 19.5 cm / 7.5 inches, length (l): 180 cm / 70.75 inches.

Skill level
Basic stitches, increases, single knit and purled decreases, double decreases. Some stitch patterns requiring some attention. Patterning on odd rows only. Working with yarn held double. Provisional CO. Elastic BO.

Pattern notes
This pattern is worked flat. Suggestions are given to customize the pattern, and to knit a stole instead of a scarf.
Charts and written instructions are provided as well as clear video tutorials for the used stitches.
