It’s always nice to kick back and forget about the stresses of modern-day life once in a while. And what better way to relax then with a nice, simple knitting pattern. The Easy Street asymmetrical shawl is a fun-to-work one skein shawl pattern that uses just knit stitches (it’s true!) and will make the most of a skein of 4ply yarn, you just keep going until you run out.
There are instructions for 2 different versions of the shawl: You can wither work it as a 4 row repeat pattern, or an 8 row repeat pattern (as shown in the photo above)
Either way the resulting shawl is reversible, light and lacy, and the magic lies in the fact that there are no complicated lace stitches to learn, just a simple wrapped stitch otherwise known as long garter stitch! It works beautifully with variegated, colourful sock weight yarn and the pattern is easy to remember making it perfect for TV or travel knitting.
A tutorial on how to work the long garter stitch can be found by visiting https://www.undertheolivetreeknits.com/stitch-tutorials.html
Skills / Techniques Used – Knit, increase, decrease and wrapped stitches
Sizes: One size fits all
Measurements
The finished blocked shawls will vary in size but from the pattern pictures given the sizes are:
Version 1 – 88” (225cm) wingspan and 29” (74cm) depth at the longest part
Version 2 – 80” (205cm) wingspan and 23” (58cm) depth at the longest part
Version 1 will produce a bigger shawl due to the extra rows of dropped sts.
Materials
Gauge is not vital to this project but as a guideline your yarn should knit to around 22 stitches and 30 rows to 4 inches / 10cm in stockinette stitch after blocking.
