Nursing is a profession that focuses on protecting and improving the health of the individual, family and society, and aims to reach the ideal level of health and quality of life.

Nurses work in collaboration with doctors, the patient, the patient's family and other team members to develop a care plan in order to improve the quality of life and provide the most accurate medical care that the patient needs. In the United Kingdom and the United States, advanced practitioner nurses, such as clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners, diagnose health problems and prescribe medications and other treatments, depending on individual state regulations. Nurses plan patient care independently or in collaboration with other members of a multidisciplinary health care team, such as medical practitioners and dietitians.
Nurses differ from other healthcare team members in terms of their approach to patient care, education and scope of practice. Nursing has wide application areas. Nurses implement the treatment plan, evaluate the course of treatment, conduct a physical examination, monitor the patient, respond to emergencies, and plan the patient's medical care. The care-providing role has shaped the historical image of nursing. Nurses have been given the opportunity to work independently with various arrangements made at the education level. In the post-war period, nursing education has assumed an advanced and specialized identity, and has undergone a process of diversity with many traditional arrangements and changing caregiver roles.
