Problem solving is the cognitive process of transforming a particular situation into an outcome situation when there is no clear solution method available for the problem solver.

Problem solving is goal-directed behavior. It includes sub-goals that make it possible to implement moves.

The main features of problem solving are: (1) being goal-oriented, (2) subgoal decomposition, (3) implementation of moves (operator). Here, the action to move from one problem position to another problem position is called 'movement'. Thus, the entire target is decomposed into sub-goals, moves are applied between these sub-goals, and the solution of the problem is realized.
